Explore the Wild: Unforgettable Algonquin Backcountry Canoe Trip Across Three Stunning Lakes

If you are planning to go on a three day backcountry camping trip, this might be a great option for you.

DAY 1: We started the trip from Canoe lake, where we rented our canoe. A short 10-minute stroll across the highway led us to the Smoke Lake Access Point, where we started our trip.

The Route

It was a beautiful September day, Smoke Lake was very quite. We paddled leisurely through the beautiful Smoke Lake and smoothly transitioned to Ragged Lake with a short portage.

After paddling through two breathtaking lakes, we arrived at our first campsite – at the end of Ragged Lake. As the other sites were occupied, we were lucky to find the perfect spot to set our tent.

DAY 2: We set out from Ragged Lake towards Big Porcupine Lake, starting on a challenging portage with our gear. The campsite, located on a rocky landscape overlooking the river, gave a picturesque setting for us to relax. After setting up camp, we had in a refreshing bath in the lake as the sun was setting.

Before the Sun goes down, we headed to explore for a bit the nearby small islands and fishing spots.

DAY 3: we paddled back from Big Porcupine to Ragged lake, then onwards to Parkside bay with scenic views and campgrounds. As almost all the camp sites were taken for the day, we found ourselves wandering the bay in search of a vacant site hopelessly until it gets dark. Exhausted from a day of paddling under the scorching sun, I had already given up and decided to camp in the woods. Suddenly, we saw an orange sign of a site through the leaves as we were just about to finish one whole circle around the bay.

The site was complete with a natural shallow pool perfect for a bath and a hilly area ideal for setting up a hammock to enjoy the view of the sunset of Parkside bay.
